Let’s Go to the Hop…

So, the other day, I was reading on Janine’s blog, about the blog hop in which she had been featured. At the bottom of the post was the rafflecopter. So I entered thinking: “I never win anything anyway, why not?” (No clue what a blog hop is? This explains it all…) Like Janine, I totally forgot about it until…

To my surprise, I got an email from the owner of an awesome blog entitled Spilled Milkshake saying that I had won! WOOHOO!!! Maybe I should go play the lottery?!

I’m psyche, though, because this is my “business” blog, and, well , business is slow… 😀 (Warning: shameless plug) So if you need a freelance writer….

I do want to say thank you to all my blogging friends who have been so supportive recently including:

And EVERYONE in the Bloppy Bloggers Facebook Group. You guys have seriously kept me from going completely insane (I’m already kinda insane…)

Anyway, I’m really excited about co-hosting this weekend’s blog hop! I’m looking forward to actually taking some time out to relax and getting to actually read instead of write! So, enough writing, let’s get to the good stuff. Here’s the Blog Hop for Spilled Milkshake where I’m the featured blogger (YAY!) 😀

The Hop!

Welcome to the Getting to Know You Weekend Blog Hop. This week we are Getting to Know Melissa from Writings by Daughter of Maat!

From Melissa:

A little about me, let’s see, I just recently became a freelance writer. I spent 16 years in ophthalmology and got a bit burned out. So, I left that job and became a stay-at-home-mom. We took a huge pay cut when I left my career, so in an effort to help with the household expenses I started writing, something I had always wanted to do, but never thought I could.

I began writing on Hubpages, which is where I invented my writing name Daughter of Maat. Unfortunately, I didn’t start making any money there until five months after I started, so I found other ways to make money writing online. That’s when I found blogging.

I had been on a weight loss journey for over a year and decided to start a blog about it, and things just kind of snowballed from there. I started a blog on veganism (I’m a hippy – I admit it) and a blog on homeschooling.

Once I found I really enjoyed this writing thing, I decided to make it official. I started my current and most active blog Writings by Daughter of Maat where samples of my work can be found among some of my random musings about life in general.

Some fun facts about me that most people don’t know:

  1. I’m a tree-hugger. The environment is extremely important to me!
  2. We live out in the middle of nowhere.
  3. I love crocheting, knitting, scrapbooking, and (of course) writing.
  4. I’m a huge video gamer.
  5. I met my husband (and soul mate) while playing video games on xbox live.
  6. He drove 2000 miles to be with me, and had yet to meet me in person.
  7. We have a six year old daughter who loves homeschooling.
  8. It’s not unusual for us to see black bears roaming in our front yard (just saw momma bear and her two baby bears in the front yard yesterday!).
  9. I have 6 cats and a dog, all of which are named after Egyptian or Norse Gods/Goddesses.
  10. I’m an organization addict! I have a home management binder that I cannot live without!
  11. I’m an EXTREME liberal.

You can find me pretty much everywhere, I’m on Facebook, Twitter (oh how I love twitter), LinkedIn, and Pinterest.

Be sure to visit Melissa’s links and show her some love!

Wow, well done!! That’s incredible 🙂

  2. Melissa, that is so awesome that you are the winner and co-host of this weekend’s blog hop. Such a neat feeling, right? I was kind of shocked too, because like you I never win anything. I can truly count on one hand how many times I have won something, lol!! Seriously, so happy for you and just so very well deserved!! I have to thank you too, because of you I am trying my hand a bit at the copywriting side that I wasn’t so sure of and thanks for your input on that 🙂 🙂

    • Thanks Janine!! It’s is a neat feeling! Still can’t believe I won! lol

So glad I could help you with the copywriting thing. I remember when I first started, I had a really hard time. You kinda just have to jump in. If you need any help, just let me know! I wish I had had someone I could ask all my questions too!! 😀

      • Totally a neat feeling an can very much relate 🙂 Again thank you so much and may definitely hit you up with questions. I also signed up and tried one article so far on Knoji too. Just feeling my way around right now, but so loving my blog that even though I am not making much can’t help but post on there everyday, because I just can’t stop myself 🙂

      • I’ll have to go follow you on Knoji! I haven’t had a chance to write for my blogs. We’ve been so short on cash lately that I’ve been strictly writing for Textbroker the past 2 weeks. I’m also behind on my hubs for the month, I have 11 days to write 7 hubs!! No pressure!! 😀

      • I probably should be do what you are doing, because we so need the money, but I just can’t seem to help myself with my blog and have not missed a day yet. Hubpages I haven’t published an article in over a week (I have six that need to be published), but since I haven’t written anything new right now I have been sitting on those six. I am in need of trying to do more of the copywriting, because on Textbroker I made almost $8 on just one article, which I haven’t even made yet this month on HP. Sorry for writing a book here, but couldn’t help but share 🙂

  3. It’s really great to meet you, and especially nice to hear that you treat your blog as a business. Not all of us do on the Momblogosphere, but quite a few of us in fact. It’s how I started blogging–to help my business. If you ever need any help with business or blogging, just let me know!
