Murphy Hates Me

Murphy’s law has been kicking my ass as of late. You know, that law that states:

Anything That Can Go Wrong, WILL!

This guy, Murphy, whoever the fuck he is, totally hates me.

Or 2013 just isn’t going to be my year…

I prefer to think Murphy hates me because at least then I have someone to blame.

As if it wasn’t bad enough, my landlord decides to make it worse. We’ve lived in the same house for seven years and never once has she EVER done an inspection. But all of a sudden, she’s gotten a bug up her ass and will be inspecting the house this month.

She said she’d give us 48 hours notice… How kind of her…

We’re hoarders clutter bugs… and while our house isn’t as bad as some, we haven’t quite made it to minimalism as of yet. But we’re working on it. However, we do have 6 cats, and the carpet hasn’t been cleaned in seven years. It’s not pristine if you get my drift. Napalm would be the easiest solution, but I’ll hold off on bombing the place temporarily.

So the landlord goes into this whole long three page text (yes a text message – not a phone call) about how she will ask renters to leave if the place being rented isn’t in good condition. I’ll be honest. We’ve been hiding the fact that we’re…uh… not Christian… from them. But I have a feeling somehow the cat got out of the bag… (pun intended), and they are now looking for ANY reason to get us out of this house.

Unfortunately, I can’t prove anything.

Except that Murphy fucking hates my ass.

Why, you ask? I’ll give you a few reasons:

  • Unemployment is taking its sweet ass time, so we’re at the mercy of the state for income at the moment
  • Rent is already late
  • Landlord wants to do inspections
  • Still haven’t gotten my bank account situation resolved
  • We have tons of stuff listed on eBay, but only one thing has sold this month
  • Knoji screwed me over on my December payment
  • Because of Knoji, my phone may get shut off
  • I have to renew my license by my birthday which is in March, and I might have to take the written test and possibly even the skills test over again
  • My migraines are back with a vengeance
  • Our internet keeps going out, just about every hour in fact

I’m sure I could think of more reasons, but at the moment, I’m too tired to think of any more.

Oh ya, I got screwed over by Knoji. They neglected to pay me $29 (which made me $29.00 short of making the phone bill). The reason they gave? I swear these people must think I’m completely stupid. The coupons that generated that $29.00 were apparently revoked. They are basically telling me that EVERY customer who used my coupons in December returned their products which reverses the commission. That’s like 29 people. REALLY? This is not only the first time I’m hearing about this, it’s also the first time it’s ever happened. In the past five months, not one person has returned their product until now? WTF???

I can understand a few people returning their products. But ALL of them? One of the coupons I know for a fact could not be returned because it was for a disposable product, and the company doesn’t allow returns on products that are disposable.

So now I have to deal with that as well. You know, because I didn’t have enough on my plate already….

Plus, I doubt I’ll be writing for Knoji anymore, which means that’s one stream of income down. Yay!

I think Murphy has some sort of vendetta against me… This is going beyond hate!

  1. I am so sorry Melissa to hear all of this and will say this I stopped using Knoji about a month ago, because I too wasn’t too thrilled with them, so I wasn’t completely surprised by what you wrote about them here. As for the other stuff, I have to say it just sounds like a bit of bad luck, but it stinks that it is happening all at the same time. I am thinking about you and hope things do get better real soon.

    • Thanks Janine!! I actually thought about quitting Knoji sooner, but I made so much money with them and I really needed it. But in December, I didn’t make that much and I made even less since they jipped me. I’m still making coupon commissions there, and I might do a few product reviews, but I’m not going to put a lot of effort into it. I need to focus on those things that will actually make me money. The other thing that ticked me off about Knoji is that no matter what I put in my reviews, I made no more than $7.00. One of my reviews was 1700 words, and I only made $7.00. I make more than that at Textbroker even after I got demoted! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this may just be a bad month. Trying to stay positive, at least my house will be uber clean and organized right? lol

I feel ya there… 2013 hasn’t been good to us either. It started with our car blowing up in Missouri. In fact, I am home right now… but the car is not. And each hour it seems to be getting worse and worse. I think there is only so much a person can take!

    • Oh I know what you mean Stacy! It just seems to get progressively worse as the day wears on. Did you blow the engine in your car? For me that would be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Just one more thing to spend money on right? Maybe all of our bad luck this month means the rest of 2013 will be awesome? One can hope anyway… lol 😀

So sorry to hear about all this bad luck, but remember Murphy hates everyone, not just you..the good news is, it won’t last. Things WILL turn around!!

    • Thanks Emily. I know things have to get better eventually. But it’s really hard to see that light at the end of the tunnel when your in the midst of the darkness. But you’re right. Murphy does hate everyone lol. 😀

You gotta put Murphy in his place, damn him. Sock it to him and declare that you’re taking your luck back. 🙂 2013 is going to rock – at least I hope so, lol.

    • ha ha ha, love it Cyndi! You’re right though, I do have to fight back. It’s easy to fall into a funk when things hit all at once like this. I’m so glad I have all of you!! 🙂

  5. Julie DeNeen says:

Oh Melissa…I’m sorry. I hope things start to bounce back for you!

  6. Amy says:

Oh, I’m sorry. 😦 And adding the physical headache to all of it makes it so much worse. I hope you feel better soon and that things make a fast turn around.

    • Thank you Amy. Ya the headache thing really doesn’t help matters. Especially when I need to think clearly! This migraine seems to be hanging on for dear life. Hopefully it’s hormonal which means it should stop in the next day or two. The pain makes it much easier to fall into a depression over everything. But surprisingly, blogging helps with that. I think its all the support I get from all of you!!

(old, old…very old joke): “Murphy? Murphy’s not here, man”

Well, maybe it’s not *that* old a joke, but it has stuck in my head since college. Sometimes when the bad stuff seems to build momentum (the murphy thing) well meaning people say, ‘keep an optimistic outlook’ which is sort of like standing in front of the elephant house at the zoo and having someone say, ‘I will give you 1 million dollars if you go fro 60 seconds without thinking the word, ‘elephant’.
But momentum does work in both directions.

    • Clark, that’s funny that you bring up momentum. I was just reading a book that was talking about the same thing, but it called it inertia instead. You’re right though. Hopefully, I can get some forward momentum here soon so I can get things turned around!

DOM, I wish I could fix it for you. 😦 That sounds like my 2012! Everything that could make life harder seemed to happen. I really hope that things turn the corner for you and FAST! Sending positive thoughts your way. And you are a fighter, don’t give up!

    • Awe, thanks Terrye! I’m trying not to give up, but dang it, Murphy ain’t makin it easy! lol. And it seems all those things like to happen all at once don’t they? Thanks for the positive thoughts, we need all that we can get! 🙂
