My blog planner which contains my plans for upcoming posts, my blogging business plan and my weekly task list from my HMN.
One of the downfalls of being a mom is the innate urge to be superwoman. We try to do everything, and unfortunately, we just can’t.
For the work at home mom (WAHM), this need to do everything is even greater. We want to run a business, take care of our families and have a spotless house all at the same time. But usually, one or more of these areas suffers from neglect.
As most of you know, I’m fairly new to the whole WAHM arena. I’ve been doing this for a little over a year, and I’ve only been seriously blogging for about six months. Even so, I’ve learned a great deal about the most efficient ways to run a freelance writing business, clean a home and homeschool a child during those six months. Although, I’m far from an expert.
The most important thing I’ve learned is that it is imperativeto stay organized!
If you’re a regular reader, you know how much I LOVE to organize! I’ve rearranged my desk I don’t know how many times in the past few weeks. It seems every time I have writer’s block, I end up cleaning my desk, or the kitchen, or vacuuming etc.
If you haven’t already, you may want to read my post on my Home Management Notebook. I have found my HMN to be indispensable. It has helped me keep the bills, chores, and even my writing in order. I’ve saved quite a bit on groceries too by using the menu planners I’ve found.
I love the New Year. It’s a fresh start for anyone and everyone, and we can all use a clean slate to start from once in a while. I’m no exception.
2012 was a hard year for me as many of you know. The one thing that has been hanging over my head the most is my lack of self discipline with my exercise regimen. I had lost 70lbs and gained so much lean muscle that I had almost completely eliminated my risk of type II diabetes. But because of my husband’s injury and loss of work, I haven’t worked out in months. I haven’t gained the weight back, but I’ve lost the majority of the muscle. It took me 18 months to get where I was, and only about 3 months to lose it.
What really pisses me off? The self discipline I had is completely gone. I was getting up at 04:00 every morning before work and working out for 3 hours. What he hell happened to me? Continue reading →
It’s official! Mommy Writings by Daughter of Maat is the winner!
To celebrate the new year and the new blog name, I gave the blog a new look that (hopefully) has more of a “mommy” feel to it.
I’m taking the blog in a new direction. I’ll be sharing more mommy stories as well as the progression of my freelance writing business. The point is to share my experiences with other moms who might be just starting on their “work-at-home” business and are struggling to make time for family, business, and personal endeavors. I recently wrote a hub specifically geared toward helping new WAHMs to set and reach their goals. But not just their business goals. It was written to help them reach their own personal as well as family goals.
I’ve been planning goals for this blog for about a week and a half now, and I’ll be sharing those with my next post. But here is a quick glimpse:
Write blog posts daily
Read more blog posts and make more comments
Network with other bloggers (be more sociable)
I also have quite a few writing goals as well as personal goals that I’ll be working toward this year. I’ll share those with my next post as well. But for now, Welcome to Mommy Writings by Daughter of Maat and
I haven’t done much on this blog in the past week. Mainly because I’ve been planning my new posts for the new site which I will be launching on January 1, 2013. I’m really enjoying planning the new direction this blog will be going, and I think it will help me focus and be more productive. In fact, I’m working on a blog post now that outlines the goals for this blog for 2013. 😀 Plus I think it will actually be beneficial for those moms who are looking for ways to make a little extra money and still be accessible to their families. I’m so excited!
However, I have a small problem:
The Poll Results Were Tied!
So, we need to have a tie breaker vote. I can’t launch without a title, so please vote in the poll below and share this post with everyone you know. Otherwise, my husband makes the tie breaker decision, and we definitely don’t want that… 😉 Also feel free to add your own suggestions, and I’ll add them to the poll as well.

To everyone who kept us in their thoughts and prayers. Apparently, someone heard them.
Yesterday, we were told a settlement had been reached in regards to Greg’s workman’s comp case. Although I can’t go into any details until the case is completely closed, I can say we’re getting an advance that will keep us from getting evicted. Continue reading →
I, finally, got Hub of the Day (HOTD)!! WOOHOO!!!! YAY!!! Four months in the apprenticeship program has really paid off! What a reward for all my hard work. You should have heard me when I saw my hub on the side of my Hubpages Feed Page!! I squealed!!! I was so happy, I’m still riding the high!! I was beginning to get a bit depressed and losing motivation for my writing on Hubpages because of the traffic losses recently (thanks Google). But this has renewed at least my motivation.
HOTD does wonders for your traffic, although it’s a shame it isn’t coming from Google. I’m sure it will start to slow down tomorrow, although my hub will be featured on the Hubpages Homepage for 9 days. I’m hoping all the popularity might increase my rank with Google. Notice I said hoping…
I’ve been writing for Hubpages since January of this year (2012) and had yet to get HOTD until today. Even my hubby got the Rising Star Award after only authoring two hubs!! Needless to say how jealous and ticked off I was. I’d put in all this effort, even applied for and got accepted to the apprenticeship, and my husband, the one who has no grammar skills whatsoever, gets Rising Star… Really?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m really proud of him, I was more mad at myself. I kept asking myself what I did wrong. Why wasn’t my work good enough? Although I refused to give up, I was getting to the point where my heart just wasn’t in it. I found myself writing for Knoji and Textbroker more, and ended up having to scramble to finish my 8 hubs for the month of October. This HOTD was one of those hubs. Go figure!
