Project 365

After reading about this challenge on several blogs and seeing a few of my blogger friends start the challenge, I thought it would be fun to try taking a picture a day. I used to take pictures all the time, but after my dogs died, I didn’t really feel like taking pictures of anything. But I miss scrapbooking, so I’m hoping this will get me back in the habit of picking up the camera, and I’ll end up taking more than one photo a day!

Project 365 – “Pic of the Day”

March 17, 2013 – Day 62 – Happy Saint Paddy’s Day!!

March 16, 2013 – Day 61 – This is me and Osiris. He’s just the cutest kitty. He’s really lovey-dovey and is really the only kitty that will let me hold him like this for long periods of time. If I didn’t know better, I’d think he actually likes being cuddled like this!! He looks awfully happy in this picture!

March 15, 2013 – Day 60 – This is Sam striking her “gangsta” pose. I’m surprised the picture is so clear because I was laughing so hard when I took the picture!

March 14, 2013 – Day 59 – We’ve been doing a lot of homeschooling lately, trying to catch up for some days that I got lazy. This is a pic of Sam working on the digestive system. I know she’s only six and this is an adult coloring book, but she really learns a lot from the pages surprisingly!

March 13, 2013 – Day 58 – This was just an adorable picture of Sam!

March 12 2013 – Day 57 – Today was awfully gloomy, and it only rained for a few minutes. When the rain finally did stop, I took the dog out and thankfully brought the camera. This made me smile.

March 11, 2013 – Day 56 – I have about a bazillion cats (okay, just 6) and Anubis is the only one who won’t pose for a photo. So Greg pinned him down (gently of course) and I finally got a few decent shots. This is one of my favorites.

March 10, 2013 – Day 55 – Another morning shot, but this one is just amazing. I pointed the camera at the sun and hit the button (although I know I could have looked through the view finder safely because I wear polycarbonate lenses, I’d rather be safe than sorry!), and this is what it captured!

March 9, 2013 – Day 54 – I’m actually astonished by how much better the pictures are with the replacement Nikon. Look at this Japanese rosebud!

March 8, 2013 – Day 53 – Did I mention I love taking pictures in the morning?

March 7, 2013 – Day 52 – I love taking pictures in the morning. Since we got the new Nikon (the replacement one), the pictures are actually much clearer and I can get shots like this!

March 6, 2013 – Day 51 – You’d think it was still autumn in my backyard! Who says the trees don’t change in Florida… they do, they just do it in spring!

March 5, 2013 – Day 50 – I had the lucky opportunity to catch some Sand Hill Cranes in my front yard. After taking a few pictures, I got to snap this one of them fighting. It’s a bit blurry because I was on my front porch taking the picture through the screen. I would’ve gone out to the front yard, but opening our porch door makes way too much noise.

March 4, 2013 – Day 49 – It got so cold last night, there was frost on my pepper plant this morning. I’m really hoping it didn’t kill the plant, but it was beautiful nonetheless.

March 3, 2013 – Day 48 – I love taking pictures and getting results like this:

March 2, 2013 – Day 47 – Greg and Sam homeschooling. You can tell Sam looks really interested. This was her history segment.

March 1, 2013 – Day 46 – Sekhmet sticking her tongue out at Greg. lol Thhhhppppppp….

February 28, 2013 – Day 45 – Another sunrise. I love sunrises!

February 27, 2013 – Day 44 – This is the view that we have on the side of our house.

February 26, 2013 – Day 43 – We have such an awesome backyard view!

February 25, 2013 – Day 42 – I went out early to snap this shot of the sun rising. It was awesome!

February 24, 2013 – Day 41 – We have a beautiful tree in our backyard that I believe is some kind of Japanese rose tree. It looks like a hibiscus though. With the weather changing rapidly, I’ve been snapping pictures of this tree a lot lately. This is one of the best shots I’ve taken. There is actually some dew on the petals!

February 23, 2013 – Day 40 – Another shot of Greg playing video games and Osiris being cute all curled up next to him. As you can tell, Greg has his “game face” on!

February 22, 2013 – Day 39 – I really can’t tell if Osiris likes us or not. What do you think? This is him all curled up next to Greg who happens to be playing video games.

February 21, 2013 – Day 38 – I know, I know, another kitty photo, but I’ve been playing around with the camera a lot, and Osiris makes an excellent subject. He let’s me just snap away and doesn’t move. So, here is my portrait of Osiris.

February 20, 2013 – Day 37 – I couldn’t believe this shot I took! Talk about some perfect timing! (and yes, kitty has a dental appointment next week!).

February 19, 2013 – Day 36 – Sam loves playing with her Tinker Toys! This shot was so good I used it on the banner for my homeschool blog!

February 18, 2013 – Day 35 – I’m still playing with the Nikon and let me tell you, I’m getting some of the best pictures I have ever taken! I’ve always wanted to take pictures of the moon, but our old point and shoot just couldn’t do it without blurring or some weird “smear” of light. But the Nikon… WOW!

February 17, 2013 – Day 34 – Most of you probably know that I spent 16 years in ophthalmology. One of the things I enjoyed the most about my career was the fact that I got to look at everyone’s eyes with the slit lamp which is essentially a microscope for the eyes. When I first met my husband, I gave him an eye exam and looked at this eyes with the slit lamp and found that he had the most gorgeous irises I had ever seen. Blue with a small amount of yellow pigment around the pupil. I’ve always wanted a picture of his irises, but I was never able to use a slit lamp camera to do it, and of course our point and shoot just didn’t cut it. The Nikon, however, IS AMAZING!!! Below is my husband’s left eye.

February 16, 2013 – Day 33 – Pic of the Day is going to be SO MUCH FUN with this new camera. SO here is today’s image. Our kitty Osiris has become quite the cuddler as of late. He just loves attention, and here he’s basking in Sam’s!

February 15, 2013 – Day 32 – The Nikon finally arrived today! I’ve been playing with it all day, so it was difficult to choose a pic of the day. But here it is! Sam says “Live long and prosper.”

February 14, 2013 – Day 31 – Prepping for the Nikon to arrive tomorrow, so more macro photography.

February 13, 2013 – Day 30 – Have you ever tried to give a cat a bath? Osiris is one of the few cats who won’t scratch your eyes out while you bathe him, but he really doesn’t like it much. This picture isn’t crystal clear, but he wouldn’t sit still long enough for me to focus on him!

February 12, 2013 – Day 29 – This is a beautiful picture, although I wish it was clearer. I took it in the backyard on a cloudy day.

February 11, 2013 – Day 28 – More macro photography. This one came out so well, you can see the little hairs on the fruit!! These are loquats from one of our many loquat trees.

February 10, 2013 – Day 27 – As most of you probably know, I’ve been playing around with macro photography. Well, I went out today and shot a ton of pictures and I really had a hard time deciding what my pic of the day was going to be. But I put the best one here, and I’ll put the other ones in a blog post. They’re just too good not to show off!!

February 9, 2013 – Day 26 – I went out this morning to take pictures of the sunrise, and ended up taking this AWESOME shot instead. I’ve been playing around with photography a bit because we’re thinking about getting a new camera, and I want to make sure I’m actually going to enjoy using it before I drop a few $100 on it. So far, I think I’m gonna like it!! Getting an AWESOME shot like this one is really exciting.

February 8, 2013 – Day 25 – I rearranged my desk, yet again. Why is this pic of the day? Well I’ve been playing around with photography, and I really like this one. No other reason. 🙂 The reflection of the desk lamp on the Kindle Fire looks pretty cool.

February 7, 2013 – Day 24 – Osiris decided to be cute again. He loves to rub his head all over Greg’s hair for some reason. It’s like his hair is full of catnip! Afterwards, Osiris was apparently tired and fell asleep on Greg’s head!!

February 6, 2013 – Day 23 – Today’s pic is my red pepper. We have a pepper plant that is growing SO WELL, and this is the biggest pepper it has produced to date. I put it next to an onion to show size (although it really didn’t help). It’s a bit bigger than a golf ball.

February 5, 2013 – Day 22 – Seth decided to be uber cute and curl up on top of a blanket that was on a box. He kinda sunk into the box a bit, but you can’t really tell in the picture.

February 4, 2013 – Day 21 – Sam decided to be silly, yet again. So I snapped this pic of her, although it came out a bit blurry, it’s still just too cute.

February 3, 2013 – Day 20 – The most beautiful sunset ever has made pic of the day. I love sunsets, especially when they are this bright pink and lavender color.

February 2, 2013 – Day 19 – Sam decided to set up her army men (a gift from daddy) for “mommy’s pic of the day.” So here is Mommy’s Pic of the Day!

February 1, 2013 – Day 18 – Sam just had a hankering to paint today, so we set up her little table and got all her paints out. We tracked down her smock and put it on and I snapped a few pictures. This is the best of the ones I took.

January 31, 2013 – Day 17 – Maat is again center stage. She decided to use Sam’s teddy bear as a pillow. She seemed to blend in because she’s almost the same color as the bear.

January 30, 2013 – Day 16 – Our puppy, Sekhmet, is a beautiful dog. Unfortunately, she doesn’t get along with any of our other animals and she can be very aggressive. However, despite the fact that she attacked (and almost killed) my little 8lb dog, I refused to send her back to the Humane Society because I knew they would just put her down. Sometimes you can just look at her and she seems to have a look of appreciation on her face. Sekhmet and Sam have become very close friends.

January 29, 2013 – Day 15 – We had Sam doing some manual labor in the backyard. She was cleaning up a few of the bricks we had laying around, and she just looked too cute with her little work gloves on!

January 28, 2013 – Day 14 – Today, our backyard was center stage. It was such a beautiful day, Greg went out and snapped a whole bunch of pictures for me.

January 27, 2013 – Day 13 – Sam decided she just had to be in this picture with Seth and Osiris! By the way, this is one of the few times these two cats have not been fighting. I took the picture because they don’t sleep next to each other any more.

January 26, 2013 – Day 12 – The kitties strike again! Freya is our little calico kitty, and she’s afraid of her own shadow. She doesn’t usually like attention, so it’s rare that I ever get a chance to take a picture of her. Today, however, she was sitting on Greg’s legs, all curled up in a little ball. I finally got some pictures of her!

January 25, 2013 – Day 11 – Maat won center stage again today. Greg caught her dreaming on the couch and I started playing with the camera to see if I could get a good close-up shot despite not having the proper lens. Maat is such a good model, she slept the whole time!

January 24, 2013 – Day 10 – Although this picture didn’t come out crystal clear, it’s still beautiful. I have a thing for pink sunsets like this, I just love the pink and lavender colors.

January 23, 2013 – Day 9 – Unfortunately, I couldn’t pic just one. So here is a collage of some of the best pics I took today. As you can tell, my cats have been getting lots of attention lately. Seth is featured today. He had to have a bath, and decided to be uber cute all wrapped up in his little towel. It was also a beautiful day, the weather was just gorgeous, so I snapped some shots from our backyard.

The Best of January 23, 2013

January 22, 2013 – Day 8 – Apparently, one of my other kitties got jealous when Maat was the subject of yesterday’s pic of the day because he really hammed it up today. This is Osiris, one of my 2 blue-eyed, white kitties. They have the most beautiful blue eyes.

January 21, 2013 – Day 7 – I have 6 cats, one of which is named for my patron Goddess, Maat. The picture below is her sticking her tongue out at me! I think this shot came out perfect!

January 20, 2013 – Day 6 – Greg and Sam did some homeschooling today. He used the Xbox and Sam’s “U-Draw” game to teach her multiplication tables. Who said video games aren’t educational??

January 19, 2013 – Day 5 – I know it’s old, and looks horrible, but I absolutely LOVE this car. I’ve had it since my car accident in 1999 and it has never let me down. I’m really attached to this car – you couldn’t pay me to get rid of it.

January 18, 2013 – Day 4 – It just so happens that I caught Greg asleep on the couch, and he was just SO cute, I had to snap a few pics. Here’s the cutest one!

January 17, 2013 – Day 3 – I don’t always get a chance to take the most adorable pictures of my hubby, but today I got lucky!

January 16, 2013 – Day 2 – I love rainy days, and we have the most beautiful view from our backyard, so today’s picture is a view of our backyard.

January 15, 2013 – Day 1 – Sam was watching a show about black holes, and playing with her “palm.” She was totally imitating me, because I always sit on the couch watching Star Trek with the Kindle Fire in my hand!! She was too cute!!

  1. Love it and so happy to have you doing this with me!! 🙂

  2. Stacy Harris says:

Great pictures so far! Love this project and hoping to start it up on February 1st. I just hate downloading from my camera all the time. That will be my challenge.

    • So far this is really a fun challenge, although getting into the habit of taking a picture everyday is difficult. Plus uploading them daily, like you said, is a real PIA!! In fact, I uploaded these 2 just today!

  3. I think I might start a 365-day project on Feb. 1. Need to get some ideas but this looks totally fun!

    • I’m having a blast. I’m carrying a camera with me 24/7 too! I haven’t been taking just one pic though, which is nice because I’ll have a ton of stuff to scrapbook!! 😀 I can’t wait to see your daily shots!!

  4. flemily says:

Really great pics! Looks like you’re having a lot of fun with this project…keep going!

  5. Debbie Miller says:

This is awesome!, I love the picture a day 🙂
But really sis I think you should let the car go lmao

    • I do too, it’s really fun! I can’t wait to find out what the pic is going to be!! 😀

No way… I LOVE that car. You couldn’t pay me a million dollars to get rid of it! I’m just that attached… lol

  6. Great pictures and love your kitty!

  7. Oh wow, these are awesome Melissa! Love the sneaky pics of your kids and hubby, but would have to say I’m biased and love the ones of your cats the most! 🙂

  8. Cool! The photos are looking good!

  9. ttoombs08 says:

On the Jan 15th, pic, is that a pistol on the sofa?! lol Great pics, DOM!

  10. There’s nothing harder than having a dog that doesn’t get along with other animals and can be a bit aggressive. Maia is aggressive towards other dogs because she’s scared and is nervous around new people so can be snappy if they get too close too fast. Regardless, we love her and I can’t imagine my life without her.

    • I know what you mean! Sekhmet is a very nervous dog as well. I think she was neglected and she was given up several times, so I think she has abandonment issues. Because of that, I just couldn’t do it to her again. Plus, she’s really good at scaring off bears and protecting Sam. 🙂 She’s become part of the family!
