When it Rains – it Pours

So my wonderful landlord sent me a text today saying that if I don’t come up with rent money by the 18th, she’s going to evict us.

Let that sink in a second…

That hit both Greg and I like a ton of bricks. We have somehow always come up with rent, even in the worst of times. But this time is looking a bit ominous.

I’ve been working my butt off writing, and we’re selling just about everything we own on ebay, and are no closer to coming up with all of the money. We’ve paid all of our other bills, but haven’t come up with the rent.

So if anyone wants to make a donation, we accept paypal. πŸ˜€

The shot of adrenaline that hit me when I read the text was unreal. I’m still shaking from the shot of adrenaline I felt when I read it. She knows I can’t get to my bank account because it’s frozen, and I have to have this legal battle to unfreeze it. Greg just had his unemployment hearing, and we’re waiting to hear about that, which could solve our problems (keep your fingers crossed), but we won’t know for probably a week or possibly more.

I did contact legal aid, and will be talking with an attorney tomorrow about my options should it come to that, but that’s only going to buy me a little bit of time.

On top of that, on the 17th (the day before the eviction), Greg has a deposition to attend for his workman’s comp case. Ya the crap hit the proverbial fan today.

So, both Greg and I are at a loss. If anyone has any ideas on how to make a lot of money in 7 days, I’m all ears. But we’ve already tried the lottery, and I don’t have any jewelry left to pawn. We don’t even have a car worth as much as we need, and we’ve asked all of our family members.

The really big problem is we have nowhere to go if we do get evicted. We’re still selling stuff on ebay (if your interested just click the link and all of our items for sale are on the left side of the screen) in hopes of reaching our goal in time, but if anyone of my readers have any ideas, I’d really like to hear them.

I honestly don’t know who evicts anyone right before Christmas, but apparently I do now. So much for putting our tree up this year.

  1. Mel, I am so sorry to hear this and can’t even imagine who would evict someone right before Christmas. Seriously, that is nerve and just horrible in my book. I am saying prayers for you guys and thinking of you guys.

    • Thank you Janine! I know I can’t either. Kind of heartless if you ask me, but what do I know? Especially since the landlord knows I can’t get to my bank account etc. Oh well, never a dull moment with our family. But I greatly appreciate your prayers. Hopefully things will work out, although if they do I’m not sure I’ll ever think of my landlord the same way again. Live and learn. πŸ˜€

I’m so sorry you are going through this and I wish I had a brilliant idea that could help you. Sending hugs and prayers that the money you need will come your way somehow.

I know it’s not the answer but you and your family are always welcome here you know that πŸ™‚ wish I could do more
    I Love you guys!!!

    • HI sis!! I told Greg that in a pinch you guys would helps us out. πŸ˜€ Thank you! I’m sure a solution will present itself, so no worries. If we have to sell everything, we’ll do it. We wanted to go minimalist anyway. If you happen to hit the lotto, let me know… πŸ˜€ Love you!!!

  4. Um…do odd jobs on Craigslist? Shovel snow? Decorate someone’s house? Offer to proofread on Craigslist? Umm…ask people on Facebook if they need odd jobs you can do…LinkedIn…go to the Employment Security Commission and/or Social Services – I think either one can point you in the direction as to where you might be able to find some emergency funds. Dunno if that helps, but I’m terribly sorry this is all happening. I will keep you in my thoughts. 😐

    • Unfortunately it’s 80 degrees out so we don’t have any snow, but I didn’t think to check on Craig’s list for proofreading or odd jobs. Thank you for the suggestions, I didn’t think to check with the Employment Security Commission, honestly I’m not even sure what that is, but I will definitely look into it. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts! Greatly appreciated!

You could call the Halifax Urban Ministries in Daytona and ask if they have any services in your area. http://www.halifaxurbanministries.org/ they provide all kinds of things like emergency utilities and rent assistance. A one time only thing, tho. *hugs* Sell plasma? πŸ™‚

    • Thank you Terry!! I’ll check with them tomorrow, I’m not sure they offer services to people in other counties, but they might be able to point me in the direction of someone who does. I did think of selling plasma… lol

So, sorry to hear that your family is suffering at this time. Wish I had the extra funds to help you all out. My prayers are with you!

  7. Wow – so sorry to hear this especially during the holiday season. Sending positive thougths and prayers your way.

  8. So sorry to hear this! OMG! I would never be so heartless and cruel. If it were me and you were my tenant, I’d give you the month of free rent for a gift;). Maybe they will realize what asses they are?

Hey maybe you could offer to do some work for the LL in exchange for rent? I hope something works out for you guys!

    • Thank you! I know I was dumbfounded as well that someone could be that cruel. Unfortunately, the LL is rather greedy and states she needs the cash, so exchanging work for rent apparently isn’t an option. Go figure!
